Webuzo or CloudPanel on your VPS: the differences that matter

VPS & Servers·· 11 views· 4 min read

The short answer: both run Node.js and Python apps as well as PHP; the difference is everything else. Webuzo is a full, paid hosting panel: e-mail, DNS, customer accounts and resellers. CloudPanel is free and only looks after the apps: no e-mail and no DNS. If the server will hold mailboxes, it is Webuzo.

Choose Webuzo if

1 You want e-mail on the same server, with mailboxes for each domain.
2 You want to run DNS on the server. The domain has to point at your VPS: pointing a domain at your VPS.
3 You will give accounts to clients or have resellers, each with their own panel.
4 You need AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux or CloudLinux, or you are coming from cPanel or DirectAdmin, which Webuzo imports.

Choose CloudPanel if

1 The server is only for apps in PHP, Node.js or Python, and e-mail is with another service.
2 DNS stays at the domain registrar or at Cloudflare.
3 You do not want to pay for a licence and no clients will log into the panel.
4 You prefer Debian 12, which Webuzo does not support.
From Webuzo to CloudPanel, e-mail and DNS are left homeless. Move the mailboxes and the zones to another service before you switch. CloudPanel wants an empty server and Webuzo a freshly installed system: they cannot live side by side, and the reinstall is requested through a support ticket, after copying everything out. Neither documentation offers an importer for the other panel: files and databases move by hand.
Your VPS is unmanaged: you install and look after the panel yourself. The steps are in installing Webuzo and installing CloudPanel. A VPS1 or a Cloud1, with 2 GB, meets the memory minimum of both. To compare with the other three, see which panel to install and what the licence buys you.
